Baby, v2

We are having another baby! Due date is estimated around end of august. We are again going to be doing the midwife route, although a different one this time. Caroline has moved to northern California, and we do not want to use Jaren.

Moving on up…

following his new found love of standing up, which he is repeating on darn near anything he can get his hands on…. this evening mason crawled up the stairs. Sure, mom was right behind him making sure he didn’t fall, but he did nearly all the work. He needed a bit of guidance around the turns in the staircase, but he was laughing and having a blast.

Sure, this may become a problem, we may need to get those gates up quickfast, but it was still fun to watch.

Up, up and away…

So Mason has been crawling around and whatnot, over thanksgiving week, he began rolling from a laying down position up into a sitting up position. Then, he began getting up on his knees… and this morning, when rebecca walked into his room after he woke up, he was standing in his crib. He repeated the feat a couple more times and now can do it without issue. Combine that with his love of having his hands held while he ‘walks’ around, I am sure he will be walking soon!

ah, the joys of being a parent…

As many of you know, I drive a loud audi. It is actually probably too loud, but I enjoy it, so I am not feeling too bad about it. Anyway…. last night I drove home from work, as I tend to do, and I parked in front of the house. I parallel parked it in the spot in front of the house, so I was making a decent bit of noise. I parked and got out and as I was pulling out the keys to unlock the front door, it opens and rebecca is there holding a smiling mason. Not used to being greeted at the door, I asked what was up.

Turns out as I pulled up and was parking, mason was hanging out on the 3rd floor with rebecca. Mason pointed at the windows and said ‘daddy’. That is awesome, my child recognizes my car by sound.

The joys of being a father.

mason update

so I was thinking I need to blog more on mason more often. Time goes by too quick, and it is worth noting the stuff he does. So without further ado..

he recently discovered pointing. it rules. like in the last week or so… so you can say ‘where is mommy?’ and he’ll point at rebecca. kitty, daddy, etc. it is cool. so now he is posting at everything. it is really funny.

so big… you can go up to mason and say ‘how big is mason?’ and he’ll smile all big and put his arms up in the air. ‘so big!’. that is in the last 2-3 weeks. funny stuff.

he is still talking up a storm, not that we can’t understand most of what he is saying. But his first word was kitty. that was about a month ago I would wager. He LOVES the cat. He loves the cat, he loves the cat magnets. he loves the cats in the books. ‘kitty kitty kitty’. it rules.

he is still crawling, army crawl style. he will get up on all fours and bounce around, and will occasionally crawl around for a few steps, but then he is back to the army crawl.

he likes standing but he isn’t super good at. he can’t pull himself up, but in the last week or 3 you can pull him up and lean him against the couch, ottoman, whatever and he can stand there holding on for a little bit. and if you hold him up and walk him around, he will step. he is getting the balance thing down.

Laughter…

So we found out yesterday that Mason is ticklish and can laugh. I can home from work and he was laying on his back on his play mat. He smiled and seemed happy to see me. I was playing with him and I tickled his ribs and he started laughing! It was pretty funny. He had made a noise once or twice in the past that we assumed was laughter, but we weren’t sure. But it was repeatable, we could tickle his ribs or his arm pits and he would laugh. It was funny stuff. I may have to take come ghetto video of it…

Sleep

Everyone makes jokes that when you have a baby, you don’t sleep… well, that is true. Mason has stopped napping, we think because he is excited to see us and wants to be social. Well, that is a problem cause then he is cranky 1/2 the day, and even though you can see that he is tired, he is fighting it to stay awake. So while we haven’t read the books yet on sleeping, we have started putting him to bed early.

Last night we put him down at 9:30pm and he slept. This evening, we put him down around 8:30 or so. He cried for about 47 minutes before he finally fell asleep. There was nothing wrong with him, he was fed and dry and all that, but he wasn’t ready to sleep.

Although he will be on a road trip with mom for a week and that will throw the whole thing off wack, having time to get shit done while he sleeps is nice and having him in a better mood cause he sleeps is great.

My little boy…

so sunday, Mason was fussy most of the day. He has been getting up at 6am (thanks skylight) and has been up and wide awake, so have I. So yesterday we had him in the swing, watching baby einstein DVDs, in the chair, on his play mat, whatever and he was fussy in them all. So I put him in his bouncy chair, sit him in front of the TV, sit next to him, and turned on the F1 season opening race. He loved it. I tried to explain things to him to bring him up to speed. He watched the TV or me nearly the entire race, and smiled most of the time. It was pretty dope. And it was a good race too.

4 Month Checkup

Mason had his 4 month checkup last night and all went well. We got the second round of immunizations and a normal checkup and there were no problems. He is progressing well, although they said he is tall and thin, just like his parents. He grabs and holds on to things as he is supposed to. He smiles and engages as he is supposed to. I have noticed it appears that he can see further than in the past. He is a lot of fun! I am excited for summer so that we can take him outside and walk around, play in the yard, etc.

He isn’t sleeping through the night that often, which is annoying. He will nap though, and we did just get him a new swing that he seems to like alot. The difference is that the swing goes side to side as well as forward and back, and he likes the side to side motion.

He will occasionally have a tough day, but for the most part he is pretty well behaved, not lots of screaming, etc. He travels well, and he sleeps in the car without issue. It is funny cause he is always looking around, taking things in. Funny stuff.
