Norah & Her Time Out

Kids upstairs, dad downstairs.

Mason: DAD! Norah is playing in cosby (the cat’s) water!
Dad: NORAH! Are you playing in Cosby’s water?
Norah: YES!
Dad: Norah, do you want a time out?
Norah: YES!
Dad: Ok, go sit on the stairs and take a time out!
Norah: OK DAD!

She seemed pretty happy with the idea. Sounds good to me I guess!

mason and the iphone

So I find it pretty funny that mason can pick up my iPhone, unlock it, go to the menu, choose the mxtube application, and pick a movie to watch.

Right now, mason is waking around with the iPhone headphones, which are just white earbuds but they have a microphone on them so they act as the wired handsfree setup. Mason is holding just that wire, pretending it is a phone and calling everyone he knows having minor conversations with them.

winter is over

Today we cleaned out the turtle sandbox and bought 200lbs of sand. When I was a kid I remember buying sand by weight from a quarry that had a giant giant pile of sand, the kind created by the big conveyor belt. I could not find such a place around here so we settled with the bags from home depot.

So mason played in the sandbox and norah just had a good time being outside. Mason even played in the swing. Combine that with our trip to the Brookfield zoo last week and spring is officially here as far as we are concerned.

“I had a good time”

My high school BFF Norah of Sheriff Peanut fame had a birthday party last night. Since we are at that age, kids were invited early in the evening. We showed up little after 7pm with both kids in tow.

Mason doesn’t love dogs. I think he wants to like them, but they scare him. Norah has a medium size dog that is friendly, albeit scary to mason. (“I was scared of chewey so I went to the other room” -mason, the next day)

Combine that with the fact that we GOT to the party after his bedtime, and he didn’t last too long. By 8:30pm, mason was borderline crying and was falling asleep in the chair with mommy. By 8:50, he was all out crying. So we said good bye to everyone (mason was able to say goodbye and wish norah happy birthday while crying, which was kinda funny).

As soon as we walked out the door and hit the sidewalk walking to the car, Mason stopped crying and said “I had a good time”.

Norah was smiley and fine the entire time, but she had napped more during the day.

Happy together

So now that norah and mason are both in beds next to each other in the same room, it is fun to listen to the yao of them interact. Right now they have both woken up from their naps and where usually mason is yelling for us or norah is just crying, now mason I’d talking to norah and she is laughing. Much nicer.

I do a good job fixing stuff

that is mason’s new phrase. Busia bought us a second crib today so now norah has her own bed. She seems to be taking to it quite well. Mason has been getting his fair share of time outs lately as he pushes the bounderies. It is funny though as he will yell at us and we will tell him that he can’t yell at mommy daddy and his response will be “I want to yell little bit” which is funny but not the time for us to be laughing.

Mason Update

Little things about mason:

He has almost mastered talking on the phone. Almost. There is a plastic phone that is of the infant style that he likes. He’ll walk around the room talking on it. He’ll call anyone he can think of. The conversations often go like this (needless to say, it is all mason talking):
-Hi Wanda
-How doing Wanda?
-Ate Peas and Corn Wanda
-Play toys downstairs
… and a bunch of other things that he can think of.

He’ll essentially have the same conversation with anyone and everyone who’s name he can think of. Wanda is the woman who comes and cleans the house once a month.

He has, however, figured out the real phone as well. In the past he would be all excited about the phone, but when you put the phone up to his ear, he would just freeze up and not say anything. That is improving. Today when Dad called home from work, Mason got on the phone and answered a few questions about what he had been doing, what was for lunch, etc. When asked “where is baby nonee?”, Mason got off the phone, ran over to Norah, pointed and said “Baby Nonee’s in her swing”. Oh well.

His current lines that always make us laugh… “Oh Dear” when there is a mess made, etc. We are assuming this came from the Richard Scary books, as we have a few that are older pressings. The other one is “How ’bout that”, which follows an observation. Pretty funny.

He is always eager to give Norah a hug and a kiss, and he likes talking to her, which she loves.

The other day, Norah was laying on her blanket on the floor, and Mason was standing in front of her, telling her all the things that happened that day, “daddy went to work. We rode in the new mazda car. Then came home and played toys. Remember that Nonee? We went to the grocery store. Remember that Nonee?”

I am sure there are more. So hopefully we can remember to do this much closer to daily….

Independence Grove

We took mason to the park today up in the burbs. He basically walks around carefully watching all the other kids. He doesn’t quite get it all yet, but he will. He does like the concept though. Slides are fun, swings, and stuff to climb on.

I think rebeccca wanted me to catch him, but instead I took pictures. He was fine.

The rest of the pics are here.

Mason and his words…

So like every child, Mason is beginning to identify things. I mean he has been able to identify things for quite a while now, in that you could say “go get lion” and he would go get his stuffed lion, etc….

But now he is spitting the words back at you… You can point to a ball in a book and he will say “baaa” (baaa can also mean bottle)… other things include “burrr” (bird), “caaaa” (car, the is is like aahh), “caaa” (cat, the a is like AAAAAple), “mom”, “daaa”, etc…

It is pretty cool to watch…
