Progress… but not there yet…

we are still having contractions, still working through them… we had our moment of transition… where we actually sat in the car with rebecca screaming she wanted to go to the hospital for an epidural…. but we talked her out of it… and she is back trying positions and trying to get through. Last time caroline checked, she was about 6-6.5cm. That was about 2 hours ago… she is progressing, and she is working hard. The contractions keep coming, and she is taking it like a trooper. Hard work I tell you. Thank goodness boys can’t do it, I am not sure how I would handle it.

So we are moving, not sure how dilated, but to what ends, she is getting there.

trying to get some rest…

ok… so contractions started around 10pm or so… and they are minor and not that close together, but they are happening.

Caroline has arrived, and everything checks out fine. Caroline got a quick belly cast in before the contractions started, which rules. Dylan and I ran to the store to get some random things that we didn’t have and by the time we got back, the contractions had begun and the belly cast was almost done. Productive!

Right now, we are all trying to get some rest before the real action starts. We got all our stuff together and ready to rock, I just need to fill up the pool. Rebecca is fed, hydrated, and we are about to go to sleep for as long as we can. Caroline is in the basement and Gail is on the couch in the family room.

It is such a different experience than Mason, where we were all more surprised and it was more a whirlwind. Obviously today was somewhat crazy, but in a much more controlled manner. So time for some potential sleep while the minor contractions happen, hopefully it will make the big contractions all that much easier.

Water Broke

Just before 6pm, the water broke. No contractions yet, but phone calls have been made. Due to a family emergency, our midwife Sarah had to step out. However, she knew this might happen, so she arranged for caroline to be here instead. Since there are no contractions, we are still in a waiting game. Thankfully, Rebecca got a nap in today. Gail was in for the day, which allowed rebecca to nap and be ready. Time for dinner!

Nothing to say yet…

Rebecca is sleeping lots, which is good. Caroline was planning on being in chicago from roughly 8/25-9/6, but with the recent activity, she is flying in early and will arrive later tonight. In case I didn’t post, Caroline was the midwife that helped jaren with Mason. Since then she has moved to california and set up practice there. She was planning on being here for the delivery date… but since it looks like we might be ahead of that, she is coming in earlier.

So Gail (Rebecca’s mom) is coming down tomorrow to spend the day with us, which will be nice cause I will be able to get some work done. I think I will be doing some work that Rebecca was going to do as well…

We’ll see how the day goes!

Baby #2 Begins…

So lets settle down for the storm gang, the mucus plug is out (or was out at about 10:32pm). Now before you all get all excited and start F5’ing this blog over and over, remember that this doesn’t EXACTLY mean the baby will be out in the next 15 minutes. Evidently (as 2 minutes on google just taught me) some women lose it one or two weeks before delivery. So nothing too much to get excited about. Meanwhile, I blew up the pool (tub) in case rebecca wants to do the water birth. Last time, since I wasn’t prepared, I had to blow the pool up manually. With my mouth. To the point where I almost passed out. THIS time, I was prepared. I inflated the pool with the air compressor. That was much much easier for me. It also did a better job, as the pool appears to have more rigidity to it, which is nice.

So rebecca is making the obligatory phone calls to the midwife crew…

So to recap, mucus plug is coming out, but we have no contractions or anything. So sit back and relax.
